WELCOME TO LIONS EYE HOSPITAL BODHAN

Dr. Kv Reddy Memorial Lions Eye Hospital , established and managed by Lions Club of Bodhan Charitable Trust in 1999, has now grown into the most popular and repute eye-care institute in Nizamabad district in the Telangana.

The Hospital provides comprehensive eye care to the poor and needy undeserved patients from Bodhan,Banswada, Armur, Nizmabad,Narayanked regions of Telangana State; Bidar in Karnataka state and some neighbouring areas of Maharashtra state. While about 60% of the patients are from the local Nizamabad district, the remaining 40% patients are from farther unserved areas of Telangana, Karnataka, Maharashtra states of India. A majority of thes patients are from socially and economically backward classes and cannot afford eye care either because of their financial constraints or because of lack of medical care in their geographical neighbourhood. The services currently provided by the base hospital include prevention through schhol screening and community screening camps; diagnosis of catract andother eye related problems; and refractive, medical as well as surgical treatment for catract including Phaco, and other minor eye diseases.

Initially when it was founded in 1999 by a small group of lions club of Bodhan, the hospital fuctioned from a small rented building on Bodhan Town where only Out Patient services were offeredto the patients. Gradually, recognizing and responding to increasing demand, surgical services were introduced with the addition of a small theatre.

As thehospital became growingly popular, the number of outpatients doubled from the intial 3,697 in 1999 to 7,279 in 2002, and the cataract surgeries increased from 288 to 369 in the corresponding years.

With such multiplication of numbers of patients needing treatment, the management thought it fit to move to a larger and permanent building and consequence approached the loacal municipality to allocate an appropriate piece of land for the construction. with support from the local media and with the goodwill of the past beneficiaries of the hospoital, a plot measuring 4348 sq meters was allocate free of cost by the then local municipal council. Immediately thereafter, construction of a permanent structure was taken up. With donations from all the trust members and a very generous grant of varying amount from Dr K Ravindar Reddy (son of Dr KV Reddy in whose name the hospital came to be known in course of time) and also with support from lions and the public, the trust constructed a massive structure for the hospital at the current site over the last 12 years.

Today the hospital functions from a massive building with a constructed plinth area of about 2,000 sq meters with necessary equipment and services. A detailed floor map of the building and the infrastructure available is attached in appendix.

The hospital trust comprises of  17 members, all of them members of Lions Club of Bodhan and is headed by Lion T.Narasimha reddy as chairperson and Past District Governor Lion P Basaveswara Rao as Managing trustee.
